Theme: “Transform Internal Audit – Navigating the New Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS)”

The Institute of Internal Auditors Bangladesh (IIAB) successfully hosted the IIAB Summit 2025, bringing together over 100 internal audit professionals, thought leaders, and industry experts. The summit focused on the impact of the new Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS) and their role in transforming the internal audit profession.

Dr. Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan, Chairman of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), delivered an inspiring keynote speech emphasizing that aligning with GIAS is essential for ensuring good governance and long-term corporate sustainability.

Distinguished speakers included:

• Prof. Maksudur Rahman Sarker, Chairman, Department of Accounting, University of Dhaka

• Prof. Shahadat Hossain, PhD, North South University

• Mr. Raihan Shamsi, FCA, Past President, ICAB

They stressed the importance of adopting global best practices to enhance transparency and governance in organizations.

Two panel discussions were held, moderated by M. Nurul Alam, President of IIAB, and Nausheen Ahmed, Secretary General of IIAB. The panels included CEOs, CAEs, and governance professionals from leading listed companies and multinational corporations.

A comprehensive keynote paper on GIAS was jointly presented by IIAB Board Members Adil Iftekhar, CIA, and Tahsinur Rahim, CIA. Panel discussants included:

• Nanda Dulal Saha, FCA, Vice President, IIAB

• Amitava Saha, Vice President, IIAB

• Tabarok Hossain, CIA, Board Member, IIAB

The IIAB Summit 2025 was a flagship event of Internal Audit Awareness Month (May), reflecting IIAB’s commitment to elevating the internal audit profession and fostering a culture of integrity and governance in Bangladesh’s corporate sector.
